Ylang ylang essential oil is extracted from the plant Cananga odorata var. Genuina of the family Anonaceae. This extremely aromatic essential oil has a strong soothing effect on the mind and body and is used in frigidity and impotence. It has a great balancing and stimulating effect on the skin, corrects the production of sebum and stimulates hair growth.

Properties

The ylang-ylang oil has an exotic, sweet smell and light yellow in color.

Extraction

Ylang ylang oil is extracted from freshly picked flowers through water or steam distillation.

Chemical composition

The main chemical components of the ylang-ylang oil are: linalool, geranyl acetate, caryophyllene, p-cresyl methyl ether, methyl benzoate, benzyl acetate, benzyl benzoate and other sesquiterpenes.
Precautions
ylang-ylang oil is not toxic, irritating or sensitizing, but its excessive use may cause some people headaches and nausea.

Therapeutic properties

The therapeutic properties of the ylang-ylang oil are: antidepressant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, hypotensive and sedative agent.

Uses:

Ylang ylang oil has a highly euphoric and sedative effect on the nervous system and helps in anxiety, tension, fear, shock and panic. It acts as an aphrodisiac and is useful in frigidity and impotence.
The oil is particularly useful for fast breathing and accelerated heartbeat, helps reduce high blood pressure and is used for intestinal infections.
Applied to the skin, ylang-ylang oil has a soothing effect and balances secretion of sebum.
Applied to the scalp, it has a stimulating effect and accelerates hair growth.


  • Use of inhalers: In the vapor therapy, ylang-ylang oil is useful in anxiety, tension, shock, fear, panic, rapid breathing, palpitation, aphrodisiac, physical exhaustion, frigidity, impotence, insomnia, depression, and stress.
  • Use in massage oils or in the bathroom: Ylang-ylang oil mixed with massage oils or diluted in the bath helps with physical exhaustion, insomnia, frigidity, impotence, depression, anxiety, nervous tension, and stress. It also acts as an aphrodisiac.
  • Use in creams and lotions: Mixed with creams and lotions, oil of ylang-ylang is used to balance sebum production in the skin and thus adjust and balance too dry, too oily skin.
