Essential oil of geranium is extracted from the plant Pelargonium odorantissimum of the family Geraniaceae. It has a strong mint aroma with light nuances of apple and pink aroma.
This fresh essential oil has a preserved place in aromatherapy as it helps balance the mind and emotions while stimulating the adrenal gland, the hormone system and the lymphatic system. Maintains the elasticity of the skin and helps in wound healing.

Properties

The oil is usually colorless, but it also has a bright green color. It has a watery viscosity.

Extraction

The oil is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves and stems of the plant.

Chemical composition

The essential oil consists of the following chemical ingredients: pinen, mircen, lemon, menthone, linalool, geranyl acetate, citronelol, geraniol and geranyl butyrate.

Precautions

Geranium oil does not cause any side effects because it is not toxic but can cause sensitivity in some people due to the fact that it balances the hormonal system. It is preferable not to use it during pregnancy.

Therapeutic properties

The therapeutical properties of the geranium oil are: astringent, hemostatic, diuretic, deodorant, tonic, anthelmintic and wounds.

Uses:

Geranium oil helps the treatment of acne, bruises, burns, dermatitis, eczema, hemorrhoids, lice, ulcers, sore throat, stress, neuralgia, etc. The oil has a balancing effect on the mind and affects the adrenal gland, which balances the hormonal system. Its strong smell is particularly good for mosquito protection.

  • Application for inhalers: In steam therapies, geranium oil is used to relieve stress, depression, anxiety and tension. Helps in menstrual problems and acts toning the whole body.
  • Use in massage oils or bath: Helps in edema, eczema, shingles, cellulitis, bruises, insects, ringworm, hemorrhoids and menstrual disorders.
  • Application in creams and lotions: As an ingredient in creams and lotions, geranium oil is used in eczema, herpes, burns and scalds, cellulitis, ringworm, bruises and insect repellents. Improves the elasticity of the skin and promotes faster wound healing.
  • Shampoo diluted: Geranium oil diluted in shampoos helps with lice.
