relaxation

The physical benefit of massage is comprehensive:

it improves the circulation of blood and lymph in the body, lowers high blood pressure, strengthens the immune system, reduces muscle tension and swelling, relieves muscle and joint pain. For many, massage is the most important element of aromatherapy treatment, as it is taken as a soothing and refreshing remedy. Often the patient falls asleep on the massage couch, but deep relaxation does not necessarily lead to such an effect and can be achieved without it. Some people feel excited after a good massage much more than after a sleep, the muscles may remain tense. However, over time, the massage improves the quality of sleep and the degree of relaxation. There are many cases when patients in the second session say that in the evening after the first massage they slept better than ever.

This type of relaxation is a feature of treatments based on body contact, unlike other prescription drugs.

This is one of the reasons explaining the ever-increasing popularity of such treatments and therefore their role in the healing process should not be underestimated. The simple act of massaging and relaxing muscles prompts the mind to interrupt briefly its usual high activity. Muscle tension is often in direct association with mental tension and suppressed emotions. The activity, reassuring the physical tension, reflects on the psyche and thus helps to destroy the “armor”, that is, the barriers and the protective shafts that we put between ourselves and the outside world, and the removal of tension is not necessarily accompanied by an emotional outburst Thanks to the massage, feelings “float on the surface,” sometimes “pour out” externally with tears or words of “rinsing the pain”. This is evidence of the relaxing effect of the massage, but it should be emphasized that it is usually a quiet, enjoyable, and no such outburst treatment.
A good massage, like any remedy that has a deep relaxing effect, is followed by a feeling of good physical condition and an increase in the overall level of energy. It can be said that energy that has been blocked by tension is now able to run normally and naturally and we feel more power. Stress poses barriers along the path of energy until relaxation removes them. If tiredness is the earliest sign of a disorder of health, massage should be the first remedy to resort to.
Our need for love and touch is greater when we are in a state of serious stress or disease. In his book, “Intrusion into the depths of one’s own personality,” Jurar points out that touch can reduce stress and thus enable the patient to mobilize their own healing potential. In some hospitals, the massage is routinely used to relieve muscle tension, improve sleep, relieving pain and lowering high blood pressure as well as its soothing effect. “Plaksi Kini, a sister at the Oxford Center for Nursing Education at Radcliffe Hospital, commented on this fact. one way: “Besides soothing, massage with essential oils is often used as an alternative to pain management, especially for the type of pain that is difficult to respond to tablets and injections, such as phantom pain in an amputated limb. ”

Today we have real evidence that massage reduces stress in stressed people

(no one with professional experience in the field of professional massage would claim additional evidence of its anti-stress effect). Dr. Peter Nixon, a cardiologist and consultant at Charing Cross Hospital in London, introduces massage to reduce stressful conditions in patients with heart issues. Soft tissue massage is used as an integral part of the rehabilitation program for patients where stress has caused a significant deterioration in the overall condition. Nixon gives the following explanation: “Patients with different heart problems are subjected to a massage and if this results to a reduction in blood pressure and emotional tension, the patient is given the opportunity to improve his general condition with his own efforts, of course, under the supervision of a therapist. Massage contributes to creating a good relationship between them, which in turn encourages the patient to follow the counselor’s advice and to take advantage of any self-help. ”

Some of the large organs of the body, such as the colon, are available for massage. Deeper ones such as the liver and kidneys can be influenced by massaging the overlying body section. Moody or sick organs undergo gentle stimulation by increasing local circulation and nerve impulses. The more sophisticated types of massage use the acupressure points, sometimes called “unlocking”, which activates specific internal organs, regardless of their remoteness. The proper way of exerting pressure in said unlocking points energizes the respective organ along the path of the so- (hence the term reflexology that uses reflexes in the palms and feet) These methods include acupressure and shiatsu (both based on acupuncture points), neuromuscular massage, “touch for health” (form Muscle Testing) and reflexology (based on other systems) Typically, at least one of the following forms of point acupressure massage is applied in aromatherapy, all of which are disciplines that have the right to self-existence and require specialized training. Point acupressure massage can be described as a link between the purely physical treatment and the one that affects fine energy imbalances.

Since we are on the topic of massage, it is important to emphasize that both plant and essential oils are rapidly absorbed by human skin. This is partly due to their volatile, semi-gaseous nature and partly to the fact that they are lipids. Water-soluble substances pass through the skin much harder because it is, at first, impermeable.
